Hallelujah, the sun does exist! After weeks of grey, cold rainy days, summer emerged and gave the most perfect day of warmth and sun. This couple had been waiting for the right time to get those golden-light shots out by the water. We chose the quintessential Newport location, the Castle Hill lighthouse. This location offers one of the best views of the Newport Bridge, the open ocean and the setting sun! We had such a fun time wandering around finding the beautiful light! I can’t wait to photograph their wedding next year the Viking Hotel!
Bruce & Vanessa’s intimate wedding at Castle Hill Inn was a sweet and joyous event. I loved all the details Vanessa and Bruce put into their event. Vanessa fell in love with a seafoam green skirt which reminded her of the ocean and she thought it would be perfect for their seaside elopement. She embellished her skirt with a delicate gold belt. Bruce was dressed in blue and finished his look off with a blue tie with anchors. Vanessa’s favorite flower is the hydrangea so she made sure there were lots of beautiful blue hydrangeas around! She even had blue petals for all of her guests to throw. She had the most gorgeous robe from BHLDN which was so soft and feminine and featured blue and purple hydrangea bursts all topped off with french lace. Be still my heart! Hands down though, my favorite detail was the custom cake topper. The couple wanted to include their pets so they had a topper made of them in their wedding outfits (exact, down to the anchor tie!) with their beloved furry friends.
The couple chose to get ready together which was a sweet time for them. They were both so very excited to be getting married. Due to the weather the ceremony was held inside the Chalet which was a cozy setting for everyone to celebrate. The couple wrote their vows and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. After everyone went to the main house and celebrating by having a big afternoon luncheon. I’m so happy for these two, Congratulations!
Stacy and Julian’s Castle Hill Inn wedding was one for the books! It was the hottest weekend in August and they were troopers, as were the rest of my weekend’s couples!
Stacy and Julian wanted their wedding to be relaxed & fun wrapped with a romantic vibe which is exactly what it was! The day started with the boys hanging out at the bar in the main mansion while the girls were getting dressed at the Chalet. One of my favorite details of the day were the Stacy’s shoes!!! Flip-flops are always a good idea. After everyone was ready to go, Stacy’s mother wanted to surprise the bride with a blue handkerchief, a family heirloom which has been passed down to every bride in the family for over 3 generations. It was a very touching moment.
We opted to do all the photos before the ceremony so the couple enjoy cocktail hour with their guests. We used the garden for the “first-look” as it provided a little shade from the hot sun! The couple took a quick break to enjoy some local brew while we headed out to the light house. I was so excited when Stacy and Julian were open to some “exploring” which meant walking narrow overgrown paths to get to a “secret” coastal location. It was totally worth it!
As it was time for the ceremony to began, dark ominous storm clouds were building behind the bridge. We lucked out that it never rained but I think the clouds made for a very dramatic backdrop (& fantastic sunset). As the ceremony was coming to a close the officiant read a passage which was very apropos as it made reference to rain and thunder which made everyone burst out into laughter.
The rest of the evening was filled so many fun things! Couple signature beers, lawn games including a corn hole set that Julian had made, a s’more bar by the campfire and of course lots and lots of dancing! Julian and Stacy, Congratulations!!

I love photographing proposals especially in the picturesque setting of the Castle Hill lighthouse. Justin had been planning his proposal for over a year because he wanted it to be extra special. The two are from out of town and it was Carmela’s birthday that brought them to Newport. Little did she know that she was going to get an extra special birthday present. I have to say her reaction was priceless and she couldn’t stop staring at the her beautiful new ring! Congratulations to Justin and Carmela!
Jessica and Dave were married a few weeks at the beautiful Glen Manor House in Portsmouth, RI. While Jessica was here wedding planning, I took her on a little “photo drive” to determine what locations we would want to use on the wedding day. Her and Dave instantly fell in love with the famous Castle Hill Lighthouse. The rocks, the crashing waves and Dave has a thing for lighthouses.
We didn’t have enough time to make the drive over to the lighthouse on the big day but we did have time the night before during Golden hour to snap some shots before the rehearsal! I am so happy that we did, it was a beautiful evening! The fog was starting to roll in creating this beautiful warm haze around them.
*Side Note: Go Jess! She walked in her heels out on the rocks and only needed help once getting to a very tricky far off rock. :) Stay tuned, their wedding day post is coming up next!
