Newport Marriott Wedding | Newport, Rhode Island
Jess & JC’s Newport Marriott wedding was so much fun! The day was a little rainy and grey but it had a beautiful “dusting” of fog and some nice soft light! If you have followed me for a while, you know how I love fog! :)
John looked sharp in his classic grey three piece suit and black tie while his groomsmen wore grey and turquoise to accent the rest of the bridal party! The bride wore the most beautiful form fitting lace gown with a dainty crystal beaded belt. The most important part of her outfit was the pearl necklace that she wore. This necklace was started by her grandmother and built over time. The last few peals were a gift from the groom to finish off the necklace so she could wear it on this very special day.
The ceremony was held at St. Joseph’s church here in Newport and was officiated by JC’s family priest who came all the way from Louisiana! The ceremony was sweet and filled with lots of meaningful moments and stories. After the kiss and an excited walk back down the aisle we whisked the bridal party and the couple away to get some awesome shots by the Cliff walk. We lucked out as the rain held off for our entire photo time allowing us to really make some great images! I was so in love with how the ocean was green and white, swirling around the couple and the wind was blowing, making that veil fly.
The reception kicked off with some fun musical introductions of the family and the bridal party, followed by a killer dance the couple performed, ending with a dramatic dip and kiss! The speeches were given by each of the couple’s siblings and as you can imagine there were some belly laughs in there! For the parent dances, a surprise slideshow was playing while the parents were dancing with their children. I love seeing couples when they are younger and of course there are always the silly family snapshots.
I think my favorite part of the evening had to have been the cake pull! The groom and his family are from New Orleans, LA and they wanted to incorporate some southern traditions in their wedding. The bride described the tradition to me – “The cake pull gets its roots from an old Victorian tradition of “ribbon pulling. In those days, charms of luck and good fortune were placed into the wedding cake by the bride for her single friends. Now a days, bakers place sterling silver charms with specific means inside the bottom layer of the bride’s cake and all the ladies are given the opportunity to pull a charm from the cake just before the cake is cut.” So all the ladies got up there and on three pulled their charm out of the cake. I think I may have even got some frosting in my hair! Next to the cake were tags which when matched to your charm gave you your fortune. This was the perfect way to start the fun and dancing!
Jess & JC Congratulations!!
